Cleaning Mac Makeup Brushes

A common misconception is that it takes something very special to clean your mac makeup brushes but the truth is it doesn’t take a special cleaner even though mac makes some cleaner that is preciously for this purpose. In the experience of the users from a popular blog that have chimed in on this topic, there is not much difference between using the specialized mac makeup brush cleaner and gentle baby shampoo for this purpose. Of course it is up to you but why spend the extra money if you don’t have to, right?

The technique that has been found by some to be the most effective at removing the old makeup and at the same time the least damaging to the brush is to follow something like this: take a piece or two of paper towel and fold in over where it is at least two thicknesses. Place a dot of gentle baby shampoo on a part of the paper towel about the size of a quarter. What you do not want to do is turn the brush around in a circle but rather go back and forth until you see the makeup coming off on the paper towel. You don’t want to put the shampoo on the brush directly and you certainly don’t want to fill the brush with shampoo but use just enough of it to clean but not saturate the brush. The point is to get the bulk of the old makeup off the brush, especially where it touches your skin but not to effect adversely the brush by over stripping it of natural chemicals that may be on the brush.

Gently rinse the brush using as cool water making sure the soap / baby shampoo is completely out of the brush. And that is it. Do this and let the brush dry overnight. Do not use any kind of heat to dry the brush but let it dry naturally. With your mac makeup and your mac makeup brush cleaning once a week you will keep your investment protected and your skin beautiful for a long time.
