The amount of hours you spend in bed is not what matters most; it’s about getting the most out of it. If you want to look better in the morning and start the day revitalized, take a step back and take a fresh look at the quality of your night time.
Apparently, it’s all about getting a good night rest. Studies suggest that you need more than six hours of solid sleep. If not, your stress hormone level may rise. And as a result, you will probably experience dehydration and your face may look puffy.
Experts suggest to either taking a hot shower or ideally even a bath before going to bed. The warm water will not only relax the muscles but as your body temperature will go down afterwards, your heart will slow down its pace which makes you feel sleepy. What’s the temperature in your bedroom? This is extremely important. Scientists agree that a cool 64 degrees Fahrenheit are ideal.
And here’s tip for all folks out there who like spicy food as much as I do: do not eat anything that is too spicy or too sugary. Because that will significantly raise your body temperature which is detrimental in achieving a good night sleep. Another important aspect is the humidity level. Especially during the winter time, our bedrooms tend to be very dry, which makes us more likely to dehydrate. A good quality humidifier can make all the difference. You should be able to get a decent product in the $150 range.
Alcohol and coffee consumption should be avoided or at least strictly limited. Alcoholic beverages might make you fall asleep rather quickly, however, you will not rest deeply and your sleep will like get interrupted frequently.
There is a selection of oils, including lavender and chamomile that produce so called soporific scents. Those have been proven to improve the quality of sleep. For instance, we always add few drops of eucalyptus to the water tank of our humidifier.
Lastly, look at your schedule and start to go to bed early. Based on my personal experience, I can tell you that it made a huge difference for me. There is something to be said for going to bed before midnight.
