There are a lot of pet fountains on the market, and for the most part they all do the same thing. Typically there is a small motor that pushes water through a charcoal filter and up through the body of the fountain so it can fall or run down a ramp or globe and back into the main basin. the idea is to make the water move and make it interesting for your dog or cat so their natural impulse to drink takes over. With a standing bowl of water, pets often do not get enough to drink, particularly in the summer heat. It is very easy for them to get dehydrated. After all, they are walking around with a fur coat on all the time!
So that is the general idea behind a pet fountain. But not all of these fountains are not really created equal. The vast majority are made from plastic, and most are not the best looking pet accessories in the world. For that reason many people don’t get a pet fountain because they cannot stand the thought of it in the public areas of their home. That is a shame because these fountains can have a real impact on the good health of your pet, not to mention make your life easier at the same time.
There is hope, however because there are few fountains made with not just function, but also style in mind. One of the most popular types of fountains is the stainless steel pet fountain. Of course, stainless has a classy look and feel to it that makes it seem right at home among your kitchen appliances. But stainless brings more than just good looks to the equation.
As you may know, stainless steel has inherent anti bacterial qualities that can help keep your pet’s area a generally more healthy place. Plastic and other materials can be breeding grounds for bacteria, while those same bacteria cannot live for very long on the surface of stainless. Given equal cleaning habits, a stainless steel fountain is a much healthier as well as better looking alternative to a plastic fountain.
